Seaton in Bloom
Monday, 10 December 2018 17:03
Seaton entered the Cumbria in Bloom competition for the first time this year & the judges visited Seaton during the second week in July to inspect the efforts of the Council & villagers. The Council had made arrangements for a number of environmental improvements to brighten up the village this summer, including the addition of around forty hanging baskets in prominent sites, raised beds at the Jackson Street / Main Road junction & Seaton Library, & fifteen half-barrels of annual flowers around the village. People will no doubt recall the displays of flowering bulbs earlier in the year, & there have been improvements at: Jackson Street Play Area with a new footpath, seating & football goals; Meadow Vale, with an allotment site, a community garden under development & improvements to the football fields; as well as additional trees & seating in the centre of the village.
Cycle Tour of Britain
Monday, 10 December 2018 17:00
The Cycle Tour of Britain visited through Seaton on 7 September & the village put on a great show of support, despite a shower of rain appearing as the riders passed through, with the welcome involvement & excitement of Seaton school pupils adding to the support of older villagers, & everyone giving it their all! The Council received many plaudits from both villagers & visitors alike, with the TV broadcasters giving a lot of coverage to the village’s contribution to the event, & the commentator remarking that it was the best display they had seen. Much of the colourful display was attributable to the efforts of a few Parish councillors, together with a number of artistically minded villagers, particularly Gill Brinicombe, Lynne Hardman, Olivia Norman & Vicky Smart, all of whom gave up their time to produce & arrange some fantastic displays. As well as all the flags, banners & bunting, who can forget the colourful ‘hanging’ bikes, knitted hats & gigantic penny farthing display, & of course the ‘Divvn’t Stop Marra!’ sign giving the tours’ visit a good local flavour? Well done everyone, we look forward to the tours’ return in the future!

Brick Dubs
Monday, 10 December 2018 16:56
The Parish Council is working in conjunction with Workington Nature Partnership to develop Brick Dubs as a Nature Reserve. Over the last few months, an on-site ecology study has been taking place, on which the results are expected soon. These results will help the Council assess the type of development that would support fauna & flora present on the site. Over the coming months, Workington Nature Partnership Officer Raegan Blacker will be conducting some improvement works on the site & members of the public interested in taking part would be welcome. It is planned that the volunteer work days will take place between 10am & 2.30pm on the following dates:
