The winners of the 2017 Best Neighbourhood Christmas Lights award were Mr & Mrs Hart, & Mr & Mrs Barker of Lowca Lane. The winners of the Best Individual lights were Mr & Mrs Allison of Main Road. Mr & Mrs Hart & Mr Allison & his children attended the Council meeting held on 19 February to collect their prizes.

Seaton Community Champion Award 2017 |

This is the third year of the Seaton Community Champion Award, which is designed to give recognition to people who have made a valuable contribution to village life. Nominations were sought in December & a selection panel consisting of Seaton Vicar the Reverend Grainger, Seaton Academy Headteacher Mrs Banks & Parish Councillors Mrs Lily Harwood, Julie Norman & Celia Tibble reviewed those nominations in early January. There are two categories of award: the first is an individual contribution to the community & the second is a contribution as a part of a group.

Parish Council members continue to be petitioned by members of the village concerned at the extent of vehicle speeding through Seaton. Whilst this is not the responsibility of the Parish Council, it raises this issue regularly with Cumbria Police, which arranges the provision of mobile speed cameras, & Cumbria County Council, which is responsible for highways matters such as this.

The Council’s work to develop allotments on Meadow Vale continues on a piece of land at the far end of Meadow Vale football pitches, which the Council acquired in 2016.

Work has continued to make improvements to enable Seaton to enter the Cumbria in Bloom competition, with the planting of 7,000 bulbs in conspicuous sites around Seaton.
