Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
Thursday, 21 April 2022 15:29

On 6th February this year, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. The Parish Council is supporting the United Kingdom’s long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations by lighting of a beacon at Seaton Village Hall. This will follow a commemorative event being organised by the Village Hall Committee the Parish Council is also supporting, which will take place during the Bank Holiday weekend. As a more permanent memorial, the Parish Council has arranged for a commemorative tree to be planted, which has been sited at the Jackson Street/Main Road junction adjacent to the Council’s flower bed, & be a Himalayan Silver Birch variety, which has a bark colour appropriate to the platinum anniversary.
