Seaton Parish Council Update - June 2021

Seaton Community Champions 2020

This is the sixth year of the Seaton Community Champion Award, which is designed to give recognition to people who have made a valuable contribution to village life. Nominations were sought in December & the Parish Council made its decisions in the new year. There are two categories of award: the first is an individual contribution to the community & the second is a contribution as a part of a group. Five nominations were received, all exhibiting commendable achievements: Reverend Ian Grainger; Billy Walker; Louise Brogdon; Gill Brinicombe; & Seaton Food Bank.

There were joint winners of the individual award, Louise Brogdon & Billy Walker in recognition of their contribution to the community during the covid pandemic, helping to lift the spirit of the village & bring the community together, at the same time raising much needed funding for local hospices.

The winner of the group award was Seaton Food Bank, organised by Joanne Boyd & Gill Brinicombe & operated through the many volunteers who wanted to lend a hand to those less fortunate during the covid pandemic, gathering & distributing food & other essentials to families in need during lockdown

The winners were presented with a commemorative silver salver, & received their awards at the Seaton Parish Council meeting held on 17 May.

Seaton Parish Councillors

At its Annual Council Meeting held in May, the Council elected Councillor Mrs Julie Norman as Chairman for the 2021/22 Council year. Councillor Danny Horsley was elected Vice Chairman. There is a vacant seat on the Council & any interested members of the community should contact the Clerk.

Seaton Scarecrow Festival

The Council is considering holding a Scarecrow Festival in 2021. The festival has not been held for three years & as a community event, it is very much dependent on residents of the village taking part to create a fun event for children & adults alike. The Council is proposing to hold the event in September & is seeking interest. If you would like to take part, please contact a Parish Councillor or register your interest on the Seaton Scarecrow Festival Facebook site.

Seaton in Bloom

The Seaton in Bloom Group met on Saturday 29 May to clear containers of their winter plants & bulbs in preparation for receiving summer flowers. Summer planting took place on Saturday 19 June. A new addition to planting containers villagers may have noticed is a ‘barrel train’ which is located on the bank adjacent to the cycle track bridge over the main road. Councillor Ken Slone has arranged with Seaton schools for pupils to design & paint some decorative figures on the raised flower beds at Seaton shops which will add to the much improved scenery in that location. The group welcomes new volunteers & villagers should keep a look out on local social media sites for details.
