With the Council's new allotment site now going strongly & proving popular with residents, & with a growing waiting list, the Council is commencing development of the Community Garden next door to it. The site does not have good natural drainage & contractors will be putting in place suitable arrangements during August & September. The site will also be levelled ready for further development early in the new year, commencing with the provision of a polytunnel for raising plants in. In time, it is hoped to be able to produce plants for display around the village. The Council's working party is leading on the development & villagers with an interest in being a part of the project are welcome to add their contributions. It is hoped that a group to manage the site can be established. The Council is making arrangements for the provision of a water supply to both the Community Garden & the Allotment Site. The nearest mains source is on the roadside adjacent to the Meadow Vale car park, & works are being planned for August & September to provide a supply from that end of the Meadow Vale site to the far end. A growth of Himalayan Balsam beside the car park was cleared by the Council's contractors in July & the Council has made arrangements for the grass around the football pitch boundaries to be cut regularly to enable the public to use those areas for walking. |
